The first pioneers that looked on this Valley from the peaks of Cheaha to the banks of the Coosa were called Frontiersmen and with only a dream, they were determined to carve out a place in history. They must have seen churches, schools, farms, homes, foundries, mercantile stores, stagecoaches and riverboats. That dream is now history because in this Valley nestled at the foothills Of the Appalachian with all its God-given natural resources of forest , water, ore, stone and energy is a bulging commerce, sports, education, arts, hospitals, schools, church, recreation and industries.
One hundred and twelve years after those first pioneers began to carve out their place in history, two young entrepreneurs came on the frontier and they, too were pioneers, with nothing more than a dream and a vision to carve out their place in the history of this county and beyond. C.R. Floyd and J.D. Beasley, in March of 1944, formed a partnership and called it Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company. With the hammer of determination on the anvil of hard work, they began to make real their dream under the great American system of free enterprise. Their greatest quality was, and continues to be, leadership. A profit of old said that “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. Floyd & Beasley has never lacked for that leadership that brings success.
In 1939 Cecil Floyd started his own Company the C.R. Floyd Co. and operated it until March 1944 when he and Jule Beasley acquired a small trucking firm in Sycamore, Alabama and formed a partnership, Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. The infant company had a fleet of four vehicles, with gross revenue the first year of $33,000. Those early years were not easy. The equipment was quite different from that of today, so were the highways. The first operations of Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company were limited to the textile industry, with very limited scope of operations, but with determination routes were extended to cover several states and service to the general public.
Since that time the company has been a continuous success story. Property was purchased and a terminal built that allowed the company to move from their rented quarters in 1950. Since that time there have been numerous expansions of the home terminal which is located on 42 acres of land that borders AL Hwy 21.
In 1953 the company was incorporated with the original partners retaining ownership. Mr. Floyd served as President until his death in late 1966. The company continued as a closely held Corporation under the leadership of Mr. Beasley until late 1999 at which time the Floyd Family acquired the Beasley Family’s interest in the business. The Floyd Family currently owns 100% of Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. and Jeff Floyd, a Grandson of the original founder now serves as the President of the Corporation.
Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. is an interstate common carrier providing service to all 48 states. From those very small beginnings that started as a dream to now employing over 250 people and maintaining contracts with many Fortune 500 Companies, Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. operates 175 tractors and 500 trailers. All equipment is modern and well maintained in house at the maintenance facility located at the home terminal in Sycamore which ranks as one of the best in the industry.
The safety program at Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. has always received top priority and top management, as well as safety personnel are active leaders in both state and national safety programs. Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. has never lacked for the leadership that brings success. That leadership in an effort to continue that success utilizes up to date computer technology. Service, dependability and Floyd & Beasley Transfer Company, Inc. have come to be synonymous and the utilization of a tracking system helps us to continue that outstanding service. Other services that are offered include but are not limited to warehousing, storage trailer rental and limited broker service.
